HarperCollins Publishers UK selects TelSoft to test their ‘Collins COBUILD Resource Pack’ software application

Cincinnati, Ohio. - October 28, 2003. TelSoft Incorporated today announced that it provided HarperCollins Publishers UK with installation and compatibility testing of Collins COBUILD Resource Pack. The CD-ROM contains Collins COBUILD English Dictionary for Advanced Learners, Collins COBUILD Guide to English Usage, Collins COBUILD English Grammar, a 5 million word Wordbank of authentic text samples (written and spoken) taken from the Bank of English corpus, and over 68,000 high quality audio pronunciations for all headwords, phrases, derived words and inflected forms.

“The goal of the testing project was to ensure that the new version of the CD-ROM product was compatible with foreign Windows and Mac platforms, particularly for key Asian markets,” said Jennifer Kidd, Data Licensing Manager - Electronic for Collins Dictionaries, a division of HarperCollins Publishers. “TelSoft helped us achieve this goal by testing the product on a specified mix of operating systems, hardware and languages, and by testing specific areas where problems had been reported in previous versions of the software.”

Testing the CD-ROM across 45 different localized versions of Windows and Macintosh operating systems was only half the challenge. The other challenge was reporting and communicating errors to companies located in vastly different time zones. HarperCollins Publishers is located in Scotland while Lingea, the developer, is located in Czechoslovakia. Therefore, the test results needed to be available around the clock. TelTRACK, TelSoft’s proprietary, web-based defect-tracker, was used to report the testing results. Because it’s web-based, both companies could access TelTRACK anytime they needed to and could obtain up-to-the-minute project information and testing results. “TelTRACK was very easy to use, and it improved communication between ourselves and the software developer regarding faults reported. It also helped speed up time taken to fix problems and retest them,” continued Jennifer Kidd. “The use of TelTRACK made the reporting and communicating of errors a lot easier,” said Kathleen Haas, Project Manager of TelSoft, Inc. “Because TelTRACK is web-based, HarperCollins and Lingea were able to access the results of testing any time they needed to. This helped speed up the development of the software.”
